Thinking and Being Like God
Think. Think. Think. We all do it. You think about the past and feel depressed or thankful. You think about the future and feel anxious or excited. You think about a lot of things! It feels as if sometimes you can't "Shut if off." You wake up thinking a lot; at lunch time, thinking a lot; dinner, same thing.
Consider this passage: Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
-Genesis 1:26
You Have a Dominion Mindset
You think, sometimes a lot. Not every thought you have is difficult or stressful though. Consider your dog. You are different than him; his affect really doesn't change from morning to evening (as far as you can tell). My affect definitely changes from morning to evening, usually depending on what I am thinking about. You have a dominion mindset, being acted/behaved-out in all of God's creation. Maybe you work in construction, run a non-profit, parent, teach, and volunteer. In school? Still have this mindset! When you think, trying to figure out a solution to one thing or many things, you are using your God-given dominion mindset, something that your dog does not have.
You see, you are being like God when you are trying to figure out a solution to something. In the beginning of time, God made everything, and he called it "Good." When you are figuring things out, you are trying to come up with solutions (more than likely) that are "Good." Just like God did.
Your Mindset, Thinking, and Trusting God
So yes, you think a lot. You figure things out; you come up with solutions. What about the moments you cannot figure out a solution? Is something wrong? No, not necessarily. You are made to have dominion over all the earth, and you are made to trust God with everything: food (Matthew 6:11), water, the breath in your lungs (Acts 17:25), and more.
When you use the phrase, "Just trust God", whether spoken or not, you (tend to) you use it in regards to something in your life that feels off. This could be the failure to get the job you applied for, a relationship not working out, and many other difficult experiences. You are made to trust God in difficult seasons, good seasons, and for your daily bread, as shared in Matthew 6:11. You are made to trust God, just as much as you are made to have dominion over the earth. Not one more than the other, and not one less than the other, rather both. Let that sink in!
