 Counseling Background

Sherena Holmes, LPC, EMDR is a Christian therapist in Fort Worth. She has a BS in Psychology from the University of Houston and a MS in Psychology from Capella University. Sherena has over nineteen years of  mental health experience working in multiple settings including schools, churches, private practice, clinics, and hospitals. Counseling is her passion and calling. She enjoys using her clinical training informed by her Christian faith to help others grow and find peace. In short, she loves her job!

Why She Loves Christian Counseling

Sherena truly engages clients from a Christian perspective. She loves counseling individuals, marriages, and families by integrating faith into their experiences and relationships. She is authentic, connecting with you; professional, providing you therapy tools; and relational, meeting you exactly where you are in life.

Integrating the Christian Faith into Therapy

She integrates her faith into her practice first by having the client complete a thorough experiential history side by side with the normal stages of growth. She looks for “where you got stuck” emotionally and/or spiritually. Then she and her client develop a plan to “fix the foundation” upon which he or she is functioning. She does this by utilizing God’s Word, prayer and individually tailored clinical techniques best suited for your individual needs. In addition to depression and anxiety, she also works with addiction, identity and attachment issues, parenting, marriage, purpose, motivation and trauma.

Counseling Education and Training

Her experience in church counseling centers and Crisis Pregnancy Centers, working in Christian schools and Post-Master’s coursework, taught her how to integrate her faith with sound clinical practice. She has continued education in many different mental health specialities and interests. Clinical approaches she uses most are CBT, DBT, Existential, Psycho-dynamic and Person-centered therapy. She is also a Certified EMDR trauma therapist.

Family and Passions

Outside of counseling, she is passionate about her family, having two married daughters and seven grandchildren! She loves mentoring, teaching and playing with all of them. She enjoys getting out in the beauty of nature with her three dogs; Gigi, her oldest pup, is a retired service dog, where Gigi worked with her in the office for 8 years before her retirement.
