 Counseling Background

Joel Peterson, LPC  is a Christian therapist in Fort Worth, Texas. He has worked in private practice since 2015. He graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling. His professional background includes a variety of settings like church counseling ministry, working alongside counseling pastors, supporting individual and group therapy. He also served as a program therapist, working at an inpatient mental health facility in North Texas, serving individuals and families by restoring relationships in the midst of difficult addictive behaviors. In 2015 Joel served as the Director of Equip the Nations, a wing of Association of Biblical Counselors, where he traveled internationally to teach an introduction to biblical counseling course to pastors in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Joel has led marriage weekend group intensives at a local church. He has also developed a counseling curriculum on Pornography addiction.

Why He Loves Christian Counseling

Joel realized he wanted to become a counselor after he experienced counseling for himself. Seeing people change, little by little, is one of his great joys. Counseling is a process, with highs and lows. Clients may respond differently than how they used too or experience a relationship restored. Caring for people is functioning out of design.

Integrating the Christian Faith into Therapy

As a Christian counselor and therapist, Joel carefully connects people and their experiences to God and his design for their life. He listens, thinks carefully, down-to-earth personally, and connects truth with love. He specializes in therapy for clients who wrestle and struggle with anxiety, pornography addiction, depression, grief, obsessive compulsive disorder, and relationship struggles. He counsels teens (15 and up), young adults, young couples, adults, and seniors.

Counseling Education and Training

Joel receives continued education resources from the American Association of Christian Counselors, Association of Biblical Counselors, and Christian Counseling and Education Foundation.

Family and Passions

Joel is a frequent blogger covering many counseling topics. When he is not counseling, he is in the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. Most of his family lives in the DFW metroplex, often spending time with each other throughout the week.
