More Blessed to Give

Acts 20:35 states, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

We often say someone is blessed because of what they might have or the success of family members; almost like you're more blessed by who or what you received or earned. When you are with both sides of your family at Thanksgiving, you think, "I'm blessed"; or maybe you say the same thing when you are looking at Christmas cards with family pictures. It's true. You are blessed, friend! How about whenever you gave an offering at church, and it felt like giving your best? Again, you are blessed, friend! Let's look at a passage in the Bible.

Luke 21:1-4 states, "And He (Jesus) looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had."'

Is it Okay to ask God to Make you Rich?

There is no evidence in the Bible of a Godly person asking God to make him or her rich. It is not wise to ask God to make you wealthy. In the Bible, you see God sharing that He will give the Israelites land and property (Deuteronomy 26:9, Numbers 33:53). In Numbers 14:8 Moses shares that the Lord will give the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey. This desire for land and property did not originate with the Israelites asking God, rather God promised them this in Exodus 3:8, while they were still under captivity from Egypt.

Deuteronomy 8:18 states, "You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day." If you are wealthy, it is because God has given you the power to get wealth.

1 Samuel 2:7 states, "The Lord makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and he exalts." This verse is point blank; God is the one who makes poor and rich.

You are More Rich than Poor in Life

Let's review the passage in Luke 2:1-4, as shared above. The widow was more poor than rich and she functioned as if she was blessed, being more rich than poor. Let's go there; So when you give, think, "Wow, I am blessed." You may even want to say, "More blessed." (Acts 20:35)

I hope you are encouraged. You are more blessed by giving, whether you have a lot or a little.

Questions to consider:

1. How do you function? More rich than poor? More poor than rich? Notice anxiety and fear tag along when you function as more poor than rich.

2. When do you see yourself as blessed?
